How to find the best wig for you

If you have lost all or most of your hair (for any reason: autoimmune diseases such as chemotherapy, genetics, alopecia areata), you may want to consider wigs. Bad and Good news: you have hundreds of options. To rank them, we met with wig expert Linda Whitehorst, who is the director of the best-of-breed national project and owner of Persol Hair Studio in Charlotte, North Carolina. Here are three key points to consider.

  • Always cut your wig with it on your head, no matter what style you like. The cheap human hair wigs are very long (especially in temples) and need to be trimmed to fit the individual shape of your face. If you have a synthetic hair wig make sure the stylist knows how to cut or trim artificial hair.
  • Human hair 13×4 lace front wig has the most swing and bounce and the hat can be washed and styled just like your old hair. It will take many years, but it will cost several thousand dollars. Today’s synthetic hair wigs look almost authentic, require less maintenance, and can start for less than 100 dollars. If you wear one every day, it will last for 4 to 6 months.
  • Think about how your hair usually wears. When you want to pull it back, your wig cap should be laced on the crown for a natural-looking hairline.

The best place to start: visit wigs.com to browse different and best styles from dozens of manufacturers. Whitehorst recommends wigs to John Renault, Henry Margo and Espan. To keep costs down, check to see if your insurance covers “cranial prosthesis.” Your doctor may prescribe you. And some local American Cancer Society offices have wig banks that provide free wigs for women undergoing chemotherapy. Go to cancer.org and click Find Resources in your area to find out if anyone is near you.

And as much as we are tempted by this natural food, the possibility of conditioning our hair at the time of death (and loss) seems like an extreme reduction. But that does not mean you have to shake your head to cool off new hair trends. Rock a wig in place. While we feel that a wig can feel like a difficult situation, we promise that it really shouldn’t be. Okay, so we feel that for the average girl (if there’s such a thing), wearing a wig might seem a bit extra. But we swear it’s a lot of fun and allows you to try many different styles. Also, once you learn how to apply it, it will only take you 20 minutes, depending on your normal hair, the blow can be much faster than drying anyway!

Size: When it comes to headband wigs, you really have to make sure it fits your head, otherwise you can walk all day, which is a perfect treat. Although the average size wig will fit most head sizes, it is important to note that there are smaller and larger sizes. Most wigs come with adjustable straps so you can clip them on your head for easy fit. To determine the right size of wig for you, measure the circumference of your head (from behind the ear, to the nape of the neck behind the ear). We really like folia wigs because they come in a wide range of different sizes so you can get a really nice, perfect fit.
