CADABRA INSURANCE PROGRAMMERS PROUDLY PRESENTS: A Guide to Common Fraudulent Insurance Claims
How can I spot a fraudulent claim?
It is incredibly difficult to detect a claim that is fraudulent from the onset; however, there are some tell-tale signs you can look for in order to determine if it might be fake.
Is There A Pattern?
One of the first things you want to do when looking at insurance programmers claims is analyze them for any patterns or abnormalities. Has this person filed multiple claims with us recently? Is there an MO (Modus Operandi) to their filing style? Do they often file on days off? If so, then this should set off red flags right away. Make sure that you inform your superiors immediately!
If You Feel Like Something’s Off – Trust Your Instincts!
Did something not sit quite right with you while processing this claim? Did the claimant seem overly nervous or fidgety? Did they continually try to change the subject or look away when you fixed them with a serious stare and asked probing questions about their claim? If so, then there’s a good chance that something is off about this case and it should be looked into further.
Is There Physical Evidence Available For Analysis?
It may sound like common sense for insurance programmers companies to keep physical evidence from claims on file, but not all of them do. Make sure that if you suspect any foul play, you request copies of anything that might help prove (or disprove) your case such as: photos, videos, audio recordings, medical records & bills – both before and after the incident occurred – and so forth.
Do I Have All Of The Information That I Need To Make A Claim?
When you’re filing a claim, there are certain pieces of information that you will need and it is your job to ask for them. If the claimant doesn’t have some or any of these items readily available, make sure to follow-up on their request as soon as possible. In some cases this may mean going out on a limb by calling third party sources in order to get what you need. However, if the claimant continually stalls or avoids giving you these required bits of information then this too should raise red flags!
Investigate Everything – Look For Red Flags Everywhere!
In some cases, small details can be an indication that something sinister might be at play. That is why it is so important to look at every single detail and ask as many questions as possible. Are they wearing brand-new clothing to the interview? Do they have any injuries or medical records that might support their claims? What about eyewitnesses – are there any around who can speak to the legitimacy of the claimant’s story?
There you have it, six quick ways to determine if your claim might actually be fraudulent! Of course, this isn’t to say that everyone who files a claim with us will automatically be guilty of insurance fraud – but it certainly doesn’t hurt to investigate every case thoroughly before reaching any conclusions.
